How to use the pass?

Hi Lim,

1.) Assuming you will stay within greater Tokyo on July 22 - 26, I'd activate the JR Pass on the day when you travel to Takayama. If you are planning a day trip from Tokyo, for instance to Nikko or Kamakura, then you may want to activate your pass one day earlier.

Where in our itinerary would Hiroshima fit in best, could we travel there easily from Kyoto? And from Hiroshima directly to Mount Fuji area?
And what about Koyasan, is it possible to get there with the pass?
Do you know with what kind of pass we can travel in Tokyo itself, is it a normal 'subway pass'?

Also: do we go to the JR Pass desk at the airport on the 22nd to activate our pass from the 26th, or do you recommend to activate the pass only on the 26th itself? Is there enough space on the train to Takayama or do we need to reserve ahead?
