Hello there,

The JR Pass can be used with your itinerary and you can make outstanding savings compared to purchasing normal tickets. Add to that using the Shinkansen and you are set to go!

Generally I advise visiting Nikko as a day trip, so spending one night there is perfectly fine. The JR Pass can be used for the Shinkansen to Nikko (the last part is by local train) and to Kyoto.

I think it would be nice to include a side trip from Kyoto to Nara.
