When should I activate the rail pass?

I am going to Japan for 2 weeks, and will be based in Tokyo for some of the time but will be travelling further afield for 7 days. When do I need to activate the rail pass?

Hi there!

You should aim to activate your JR Pass on the first day of your 7 days travel outside Tokyo (provided it is a 7 day pass of course). You will be able to exchange it at the JR Pass exchange corner in Tokyo station and should have no problems.
