Hello!

I've been trying to research whether or not the JR pass is what I need, but my head is getting fried with all the information on line restrictions and what not, so I thought it best to just ask on the basis of the travel I am personally going to be doing.

Basically, I would like to know if the JR Pass is what I need.

We are going to be in Japan from May 22nd to June 2nd. Our flight lands in Narita Airport and we are staying in Nakano.
There's also going to be a bullet train journey, roundtrip in a single day, to Osaka (from Tokyo). That is the only journey outside of Tokyo we'll be making.

Is the JR Pass going to be the cheaper option? Or should we buy individual shinkansen tickets? Also, does the JR Pass get us from Narita Airport, too?

When I went last time, all my travel was done above ground using a Suica card. Would we still be able to use the JR Pass in the same manner?

If anyone could help I'd be so grateful!

Hello there,

A 7 day JR Pass is likely the better option. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a return ticket Tokyo - Osaka using the Shinkansen. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.

Even adding a trip to Narita Airport would make the JR Pass a more economic option.

About your Suica question, I am not completely sure what you mean? Suica is an electronic way of payment and does not provide a discount on its own. It is to make your life more convenient not cheaper.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
