Hi there,

Sorry, I am not sure about your question. Could you give me a bit more information on what you'd like to know?

Hi Daniel-san, sorry for my brief question, I had written a longer one and then somehow lost all that I had typed:( Will have another go now!
My partner and I will be in Japan soon, I am trying to figure out if a 7 day JR pass is economical for us, for the second part of our stay. The first part will be at a yoga retreat and we will not be traveling much during that time.
We would be at Kawaguchiko, near Mt Fuji on Oct 3rd, and wanting to go to Kyoto on that day, staying 6 nights at kyoto and then flying out from Kansai airport on the 9th oct.
So , if oct 3rd was the first day of using the pass, do we have to get to a main exchange station before the pass can be used?
We would like to travel on the western side of Mt Fuji on that day, as we will have already come from the tokyo direction to get to Kawaguchiko on the 1st oct. I can see that there is a JR railway line that goes around the western side of My Fuji,, But if this was the first day of using the pass , would we be able to use it at these smaller stations?
I think the closest exchange station might be MIshima, so would we just have to pay on the regional line to get to Mishima?
Also, during our time at Kyoto, we may end up using the pass quite frequently, as I have an ankle injury that may prevent me from doing much walking.
So, as well as needing some answers to the above questions, I am trying to work out if the 7 day full JR pass is for us , or maybe a JR West Kansai wide area day pass for the last 5 days of our journey would be better for us????
I hope this all makes sense, and that you might be able to help us
Thankyou, sincerely,
Kerryn and Steve

Hi Kerryn and Steve,

For a one way Kawaguchiko - Kyoto - Kansai, its better to buy normal tickets as its simply cheaper for this route. Its indeed best to take an express bus from Kawaguchiko - Mishima and from there use the Shinkansen to Kyoto. There are also overnight buses between Kawaguchiko and Kyoto but I would not recommend them.

In Kyoto the best way is to travel around by bus, you can buy a day ticket for 500yen. A normal ride is 230yen, so its good value.

I would not use a JR West pass, as the amount of rail travel within Kansai that you plan on doing is not a lot.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
