Hi there,
I would still recommend purchasing a [JR Pass[(https://www.jrpass.com/buy-the-japan-rail-pass-online) if you can fit most of your expensive train journeys (e.g. using the Shinkansen) into a 7-day period, to make the purchase as cost-effective as possible.
