Travelling for 18 days
will activate Jr pass on 28th leaving Tokyo to Hakone,
we then travel to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka, Magome and back to Tokyo and a day trip to Nikko from Tokyo
Will the 14 day pass cover our travel including day trips Kyoto to Nara return etc

Yes, I recommend using the 14 day JR Pass for this trip. It will cover travel between all the cities you want to visit and help you make good savings at the same time. Day trips to cities like Nara and Nikko are also covered.
