I’m wanting to travel Tokyo - Mt Fuji - Kyoto - Osaka - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Kyoto - Tokyo over a 7 day period.
Is a JR pass the right thing to do? For the longer journeys, I would prefer to book a Shinkansen, is it available for my journey?

Yes, a JR Pass would be great for you and definitely your most cost-effective option! It lets you ride all Shinkansen lines, meaning that all of your itinerary can be accessed via Shinkansen. More info on the JR Pass, as well as options to purchase it, can be found here.
