Hi,

I am a solo female traveller coming to Japan for 10 days from Janaury 16th - January 26th 2018.

I have just ordered a JR Pass and would like to ask for your help / advice and any useful information that you could share would be greatly appreciated. Especially train timetable information and best routes. Also, what is the best way to book seats etc for the trains and how far in advance etc. I am worried about finding my way around as I will not have an internet connection and do not speak any Japanese - so I would really appreciate any tips and advice that I can get.

I arrive and depart from Narita, Tokyo. I have purchased a 7 day JR Pass and plan to use it the first 7 days of my trip, but am therefore aware that I would need to purchase a single ticket on Day 10 to leave Tokyo and get back to Narita airport.

Day 1: Arrive Narita, Tokyo. Activate JR Pass and head straight to Osaka. Sleep in Osaka.
Day 2: Osaka sightseeing. Sleep in Osaka.
Day 3: Universal Studios, Osaka. Sleep in Osaka.
Day 4: Day trip to Nara from Osaka. Sleep in Osaka.
Day 5: Depart Osaka and head for Kyoto. Kyoto sightseeing. Sleep in Kyoto.
Day 6: Kyoto sightseeing. Sleep in Kyoto.
Day 7: Depart Kyoto and head for Tokyo. I would like to try and stop somewhere on this day and see Mt Fuji if at all possible? Sleep in Tokyo.
Day 8: Tokyo sightseeing. Sleep in Tokyo.
Day 9: Tokyo sightseeing. Sleep in Tokyo.
Day 10: Depart Tokyo, arrive at Narita - fly.

Once again, any advice and assistance would be much appreciated. It is my first time to Japan and I would like to see and do as much as possible. There were so many more places that I wanted to see and explore, but I also do not want to try and pack in too much, as I was worried of all the travelling and time spent getting to and from places, rather than just enjoying Japan.

Kind regards
Melanie :)

Hi Melanie,

I'm sure you've already read so elsewhere but Japan is a very safe country to travel in, not only that, it is also very convenient. I recommend having a look at the Tokaido Shinkansen, this is the bullet train line that connects Tokyo - Kyoto and Osaka. You'll be traveling along this route and there are different spots to stop by on the route back to Tokyo in order to view Fuji. Easy stop overs are Shizuoka (for viewing Fuji and local green tea) or Odawara for the Hakone area, that also has a fantastic view on Fuji.

If you are worried about not having access to Internet, consider using a Pocket WiFi in Japan. It will allow you to stay connected at all time, great for navigating, staying in touch with friends or just reading up on the latest news.

For train travel, I suggest getting familiar with that you can find the best route at any time.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
