Urgent <> JR pass and ease of convenience

1. Will the 14-day JR Pass be more economical?

It could be more cost-effective to use single train tickets but the 14-day JR Pass will be more convenient for your journey as it is for unlimited travel on most JR lines, including Shinkansen.

1. What are the routes that the JR Pass doesn't cover and I will need to be spending extra?

The JR Pass covers your itinerary except for the full routes to Hakone and Koyasan.

Hakone:
The JR Pass covers up to Otsuki station. We have a blog post Access to Hakone.

Koyasan
The nearest JR station from Koyasan is Shinimamiya station. From there, you will need to use the non-JR train to get to Koyasan. Please find our blog post Itinerary tip: Mt. Koya.

1. What are the other JR passes that I would need to buy if required?

I assume the 14-day JR Pass would be the best option for your itinerary. You can see other regional passes here.
