Hello, can I make a reservation for shinkansen tickets 2 month prior to traveling date after I purchase JR rail pass ?

Hi there,
Unfortunately not - reservations can only begin to be made once you exchange the order and set an activation date once in Japan. This is annoying but it makes logical sense because without JR knowing when you plan on activating the pass you could make reservations for several tickets that you don't end up using in the end, thereby deterring someone else from potentially buying that ticket. My suggestion would be to activate the pass as soon as possible so that you can set the activation date for whenever you want the pass to be valid, thereby allowing you to begin making reservations.
