Activation and validity of JRpass

Hello,
I am planning a trip to Japan and wondering which pass to buy: regional or 7 days JR pass.

Itinerary
31st March arrival Narita Airport
1st April Tokyo
2nd April Tokyo
3rd April Tokyo
4th April --> Hakone
5th April --> Kyoto
6th April Kyoto
7th April --> Nara in one day
8th April Kyoto
9th April --> Hiroshima
10th April --> Osaka
11th April Osaka
12th April --> Osaka Kasai
If I buy a 7 day JR pass will it be valid from 5th April 12:00 till 12th 12:00?
If I buy the Regional pass for 5 days will it be valid from 5th April 16:00 till 10th April 16:00?
I do not understand if the pass is valid over 5 days integrated time or just the dates. From activation does it counts on hours the time ?
I also accept other suggestions if you can share from your experience.

Hi there,

I think a SanyoSanin Pass would suit your itinerary, activated from the 6th to the 12th. Hakone is accessible by private railway and you'll be spending 3 days in Tokyo so it doesn't make sense to purchase a pass for then.

In terms of activation, a pass will be valid until midnight of the last day of validity, regardless of the time you activated it. For example, a 7-day pass activated at 6:00 will be valid until 00:00 on the (7th) day, not 6:00.
