- I just got my "JR Pass" in the mail. However, I must admit, what I received is disappointing. I did not get a JR Pass, instead I got an "exchange order" for a JR Pass. the reason I bought online was to avoid waiting in a line. But apparently that is not the case, which begs the question....why did I buy this thing online?
- I also got a "travel guide". The map on page 5 does not show very many routes compared to what is advertised online. Specifically, I need to get to Kochi, from Okayama. Does the JR Pass cover this route or not?
Please provide insight, and thank you.

Hi there,
This is how the JR Pass works in general - you receive a paper copy of an exchange order that has to be exchanged for a certain set of days once in Japan - we know it's quite an outdated system but that's the way Japan Rail do it. Unfortunately you cannot purchase the pass in Japan anyway.
Yes, the JR Pass will cover your travel between Okayama and Kochi, so do not worry !
Kind regards,
Alexis

Thank you Alexis! You mentioned you cannot buy a pass in Japan. Surely this can't be true?

Unfortunately not - the JR Pass cannot be purchased by Japanese residents so it is intended for tourists to be purchased at travel agents/online.
