My family and I are planning on a 14 day trip April 2023 with Tokyo - Osaka- Tokyo being the big ones for the Shinkansen trains. My question is that we will be having side trips to Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Hiroshima, will the 14 day pass cover this areas as well? What about city trips around Tokyo and around Kyoto/USJ/Osaka/Hiroshima? Since there is 4 of us and this will already be expensive, I just don't want to add anymore fares to our transpo budget.

Welcome to the forum! The JR Pass will cover all your city-to-city travel in Japan this includes Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima. In addition, many local options are available. For local transport, a lot is included as well. Such as the JR Network in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka (like to USJ) and Hiroshima. You may also use the Miyajima ferry in Hiroshima and sightseeing bus. All together, this will add to a ton of savings, buying all tickets directly out of pocket.
Still, you may have some local fares as well. For instance, in Kyoto the metro or non-JR busses are not covered. The same applies to travel around Fuji where it depends on what area around Fuji-San you want to visit.
The key is checking ahead of time how to get from point-to-point and planning accordingly. Tools like Google Maps an Hyperdia are a big help. This way, you can make sure that your trip is covered by the pass.
