I will be travelling with one other person to Japan from the 17-27th of September. Due to time differences, I'll technically only be in the country for the 18-26th. What I'm wondering is if at 7 day pass would be enough to cover the bulk of the trip.

18th: Narita airport > Tokyo

21st: Tokyo > Kyoto

25th: Kyoto > Tokyo

26th: Tokyo > Narita airport

I'm trying my best to research as much as I can, but I am very ignorant on how much everything will cost. I'm mostly just worried about having the shinkansen covered. Thank you in advanced for your help!

Hi there,

I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass for the return Tokyo - Kyoto. The 7 day JR pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto and you can make nice savings if you cover the return and then a bit more. For instance local travel in Tokyo or making a day trip is also well recommended.

For instance you can visit Kamakura and Nikko from Tokyo or Nara and Himeji from Kyoto.

The JR Pass also covers the Shinkansen.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
