I seem to be too dumb to use Hyperdia, anyone around who could help us with the following:
We will be arriving at Tokyo Narita Airport April 13 at 11h55 and want to travel directly to Osaka.
Any ideas how long it would take to get through baggage claims and customs, and could anyone help us
find connections that do not use the Nozomi? Thanks very much, any help is really appreciated!
Hi there,
The whole arrival procedure at Narita takes about 30-60 minutes depending on the amount of other passengers. So you will most likely be ready to board a train around 13:00.
I looked up some suitable train connections for you that leave Narita airport after 13:00 and are covered by the JR-Pass.

can we just hop on the trains hoping to find seats?
Most trains both have reserved and non-reserved seats. With the JR-Pass you can use both for free.
I would recommend making seat reservations if you can however, this because you won't have to line up for a seat on the platform before the train comes. Please note that the Narita Express between Tokyo and Narita Airport does require a reservation.
So can we make the reservation on arrival in Tokyo before boarding the train, or is it possible to do it

The best thing is the make reservations in person once you are in Japan.
You can use this website to make reservations for some trains in Japan, this is however limited to trains that are part of the JR-East network.
