My flight into NRT was canceled due to a mechanical problem so now I won't get into NRT to redeem my JR Pass until the day after the issue date. I believe it doesn't start the 7 day countdown until I redeem it though, correct? If not, please advise what I should do.

Hi there!
We ask for indented when you plan to start using your JR Pass, this is only a formality to make sure the pass is not bought too soon. You can activate it at any time up to 90 days after purchase. So no worries :)
Hope you have a great time in Japan, even with the flight delay.
