We are planning to travel to Tokyo next week, will like to find out whether worthwhile for me to purchase the 7 days JR pass base on my itinerary.
We are traveling around Tokyo, then move on to Osaka for 2 days and then to ryokan at lake kawaguchi finally go back to Tokyo all in all 8 days.

Yes, the 7 day JR Pass will be of good help here. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Osaka, so any additional travel is what you would save.
The JR Pass can for instance be used between Tokyo - Airport, inside Tokyo on the JR lines and part of the way to Kawaguchiko.
