Hi There,

Based on the below itinerary, which Passes you recommend us to get?

Kyoto ( 19Dec- 22 Dec) Local attraction; with day trip to Nara Park to see the deer

Osaka ( 23 Dec - 28 Dec) Local attractions and a day trip to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

Mount Fuji ( 29 Dec -31 Dec) Local attraction, maybe a day trip to 1143 Hakone-Machi Sengokuhara
Ashigarashimo-Gun, Kanagawa Prefecture
250-0631

Tokyo (31 Dec- 4 Jan) Local attractions, with side trip to Daibo, and Miyajima Island

I want thinking of getting a 7 day Pass and activate it from the trip to Mount Fuji to save cost.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Hi there,

Where will you arrive? At Tokyo or Kansai Aiport? This makes quite a difference in what pass would be useful. I would at least advise a 7 day JR pass with travel to Tokyo and Miyajima.

Also I would visit Miyajima from Kyoto and not Tokyo, Kyoto is much closer.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi,
Yes, you need to clarify your arrival and departure cities, and itinerary more.

You also seem to be confusing a few places. Arashiyama is part of Kyoto, on the city's west side - in fact, it's one of the few places you can use your JR Pass in Kyoto to easily get to. The Arashiyama Bamboo Forest is one of the nice places there, but you'll be through it in about 20 minutes. There are some other good places there you should not miss, including the Tenryuji Temple, Iwatayama Monkey Park, Gioji, Adashino and the lovely Otagi Nenbutsuji.

You can also use your JR Pass from Kyoto Station down to Fushimi Inari Shrine, Uji, and Nara.

It also looks like you're putting in way too much time for Osaka. Since you are already seeing Tokyo, you can largely skip Osaka during the day. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5PM, you can zip over to Osaka for the evening. At night the city comes alive and has some great places to see, such as Dotonbori, plus the night views from the Umeda Sky Bldg, and Abeno Harukas Bldg are excellent. Instead, you might consider going to see Kobe, Himeji (with Japan's finest castle), as well as Hikone.

You should also be very careful about where you plan to go between Dec 28-Jan 4th. Many places will be closed for New Year's, so make sure you are visiting someplace that's open first.

Good luck.

Hi,
Thanks for the answers and suggestions.
We will arrive in Kansai airport and will start our itinerary from Kyoto.
Then fly out from Haneda Airport in Tokyo.
We will be in Mount Fuji from 28th to 31st of Dec and then in Tokyo from 31/12/17 to 4/1/18.

Hi,
Well, with a one way itinerary like yours, a rail pass simply would not pay off for you. Unless you really do go down to Miyajima and up to Tokyo within the 7 days.

If not, some regional passes can help. For getting in from KIX, you might look at a Icoca & Haruka discount ticket.
For Hakone, a Hakone Free Pass is a good way to see all the sights. The Hakone Loop Course is a common way to see the area.
If you want a somewhat cheaper bullet train ticket, there is the Platt Kodama ticket. But it will take you an extra hour or so.

Good luck.
