JR Pass or not?

Hi,

I am planning for 14 days trip to Japan. My itinerary is as follow

  • 29 march 2015 to 04 april - Tokyo (Shinjuku)

  • 04 april to 10 april - Kyoto

  • 10 april to 12 april - Okayama (with Uno)

  • 12 april to 13 april - Hiroshima

  • 13 april to 15 april - Hakone (Odawara)

  • 15 april to 17 april - Tokio (17 april going to Narita airport)

Is the above itinerary suitable for 14 days trip and should I choose JR Pass or normal ticket?

Hi Jackie.

Let's have a look at normal ticket prices and find out if the JR Pass can help you make savings!

Tokyo - Kyoto ¥ 13,600
Kyoto - Okayama ¥ 7,530
Okayama - Uno (return) ¥ 1,160
Okayama - Hiroshima ¥ 6,020
Hiroshima - Odawara ¥ 18,020
Odawara - Tokyo ¥ 3,740

For a total of ¥ 47,070 the 14 day JR Pass is ¥ 46,390 so you'll be able to make small savings with it. An other reason to consider the JR Pass is convenience, as it is the one ticket for all your travel!

The Shinkansen (as above) is the best way to travel there quickly.
