We are travelling in Japan from October 15 through November 7 and have planned the following trips by rail

October 16 Airport to Tokyo hotel
October 19 travel to Kyoto
October 22 day trip to Nara
October 23 travel to Osaka
October 25 travel to Hiroshima
October 29 travel to Takayama
October 31 day trip to Shirakawago
November 1 travel from Takayama to Tokyo
November 2 travel to Kamakura
November 4 travel to Hakone
November 5 travel to Tokyo
November 7 train to Tokyo airport

Is it worthwhile to get a JR rail pass and if so how many days? Thanks for the assistance and we are looking forward to your response. Take care.

Hi there,

For your itinerary it’s unlikely that a JR Pass would be your most cost effective option - because of the way your itinerary is set out, my suggestion would be to purchase a 5-day Kansai-Hiroshima Pass to cover the portion of your trip from October 21st/22nd, and then to purchase the rest of your tickets individually.
