Hi there,

Trains are rarely full and I don't think you'll have any problems getting tickets. Though you may want to review the route in advance. It is quite long, so it can be nice to make a stop over somewhere or consider flying for quicker access.

Hi Michelle,

Some trains do but not all. It really depends on where you travel. For instance the Hayabusa Shinkansen from Tokyo - Shin-Aomori does have power outlets. While the ltd. express train from there to Hakodate does not.

Do we need to book for the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto? How long is the journey please.

Hi Michelle,

There are plenty of trains to Kyoto from Tokyo and a one way trip takes 160-180minutes.

Generally it is fine to reserve seats on the day of travel but you can do so at any time after activating the JR Pass.
