Hello! I am planning on doing a lot of travel while I'm in Japan, but I am currently entering with a student visa rather than a temporary visitor visa. Buying individual tickets is expensive and rather confusing (especially since one of my trips is from Tokyo to Hokkaido and back), so are there any passes that can be acquired without having a temporary visitor visa?

Hello there,
I am afraid not, the JR Pass is only available for visitors entering Japan with a temporary visa.
As a student, your best bet may be to look at low cost airlines for travel to Hokkaido.
