Am I able to make online reservations once my voucher has been exchanged for my actual JR Pass? I’m reading that this is only possible if you purchased your pass online direct.

Yes, what you’re saying is correct. Purchasing the pass from our website, JRPass.com, allows you to make reservations either at ticket machines or at JR ticket desks, both found within JR-operated stations.
