Hi Japan Rail,
On our travels we have a student (18 yrs) meeting up with us. Total travel days in Japan are 10. I am wondering if the Japan Rail Pass will be suitable. The rough itinerary is:
Arrive Tokyo Haneda Airport and travel to Kyoto
Travel around Kyoto city and surrounds for 4 days
Travel from Kyoto to Tokyo
Travel around Tokyo city and surrounds for 5 days
Travel from Tokyo to Narita Airport for departure

Hi there,
The JR Pass could certainly be useful there. The 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen. Basically any additional travel is what you would save, such as local travel in Tokyo and from Haneda Airport.
For your last days in Tokyo, consider purchasing a PASMO or SUICA card, these are prepaid travel cards and will make getting around a lot more easy.
