New JR Pass & GRAN Class Upgrades

Hi,

We are travelling to Japan in October & will be purchasing a GREEN Car JR Pass.

We are trying to understand exactly how much we would need to pay to upgrade to GRAN Class on the following routes:

1) Tokyo to Kanazawa: ??? Yen

2) Tokyo to Hakodate: ??? Yen

Reading the forum I can see older posts where only the base fare is covered by the JR Pass & the full upgrade fee must be paid for GRAN Class but has this changed with the recent changes to the JR Pass which now includes the Nozomi trains?

Hi there,

For Tokyo to Kanazawa the upgrade to Gran Class is about ¥12570. For Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate the upgrade is about ¥18500.

Please note that there is no upgrade from Green Class -> Gran Class, so if you definitely plan on upgrading to Gran Class then purchasing a regular pass and upgrading will be cheaper.
