Jr pass vs train pass

Hello. I want to see if anyone can help me figure if purchasing which is a better option

My Itinerary

3 days in Osaka
2 days in Kyoto
9 days in Tokyo

Not visiting any other province / cities

I feel purchasing the JR pass is not ideally budget friendly due to my schedule. I feel like taking the Shinkansen train would be a better choice. Any suggestions? First time visiting Japan! Thank you
