Haneda to Osaka, to Hiroshima travel

A 7 day JR Pass normally pays for itself if you do 1 return trip between Tokyo and Osaka. As you'll be travelling much further then I'm sure a 7 day pass will make sense for you. That said, here is your cost breakdown just for that travel:

1. Tokyo > Osaka: ¥13,950 (194mins, 556km)
2. Osaka > Hiroshima: ¥10,150 (104mins, 345km)
3. Hiroshima > Osaka: ¥10,820 (109mins, 345km)
4. Osaka > Tokyo: ¥13,950 (194mins, 556km)

JR ticket cost: ¥48,870 for 4 legs

• 7 day Japan Rail Pass (¥28,300) saving: ¥20,570

As you can see the 7 day JR pass will give you good savings, in addition to allowing you to travel on further JR trains for free (eg, trips to Kyoto from Osaka). Please note that the JR Pass allows travel on all bullet, express and local JR trains (except the Nozomi and Mizuho class bullet trains). The JR Pass is unfortunately not valid for travel on the Metro as this is not operated by JR.

The JR Pass must be used within 3 months from the date of purchase. If you are travelling to Japan in the 1st week of Jan, I recommend ordering as soon as you have decided on your plans for peace of mind, especially around the christmas period.
