Hello, I'm planning to buy a 21 day pass, for travel 14 October - 3 November. I'll be in Tokyo on 8 October - can I exchange order for pass on that day? (I'll start my use of the pass from Matsumoto on 14 October, and from your website it appears I can't pick it up there.)

Hi Helen,
Yes you're correct that you will not be able to activate your rail pass in Matsumoto.
You can exchange your JR Pass anytime up to 3 months from the date of purchase. At the time when you exchange, you can specify a starting date for your validity period up to 1 month into the future. For example, if you were to exchange on the 8th of October, you can specifying a starting date for your rail pass validity any date up to the 8th of November.
