2 questions: timeframe to order & confirmation that passes will work for itinerary?

こんにちは! My wife and 10-year-old son are traveling to Japan in June 2020.
We live in Oregon USA and intend to purchase our tickets early so we have the voucher when we arrive.
I have 2 questions:

1) We land at Haneda on the evening of June 18, 2020 and would plan to activate our rail passes then at the nearest exchange desk.
I know the pass must be activated within 3 months of purchase, but how long prior to that date should I order to ensure they arrive in time? I assume late April or early May would work?

2) Our itinerary is as follows. Will the pass work for most/all of our itinerary, and would shinkansen be available on the pass?
What should we expect as far as local or regional trains or buses; will the pass cover them as well?

June 18-20: Tokyo
June 20-25 Kyoto
June 26-28 Kii Peninsula (Kumano Kodo), probably disembarking at Kansai?
June 28 Osaka, departure KIX > TYO > PDX on Monday June 29, 2020

Hi there,

1.) We ship overnight within the US but generally I would order 14 days or so in advance, this way you can put your mind to more important things, like deciding what to eat in Japan :)

2.) The JR Pass will get you to all these places and help you make good savings at the same time. Though you may still need additional transport for local travel, such as the city bus or metro. Local JR lines and buses are covered but buses operated by other comparies are not.

If you go to the Kii Peninsula, then I'd recommend going to Kii-Katsura and / or Shingu. Both can be reached using the JR and it is a beautiful coast ride to make.
