Which Japan Rail Pass should we buy

Hi JR Pass

I hope you can help by choosing the best and cheapest solution for my family. We are 4 persons. 2 adults and 2 children at 11 and 14 years old. We are staying in Japan for 17 days and have planned the following Itinerary:

We arrive at Tokyo the 21st of march.
21-25th stay in Tokyo
25th from Tokyo to Hakone
27th from Hakone to Hiroshima
29th from Hiroshima to Osaka
1st april from Osaka to Kyoto
4th from Kyoto to Tokyo
7th from Tokyo to Haneda airport to fly home to Denmark

I hope you can help us to make the right choice.

Hi Rothmar Family,

Looks like a fun trip, love that you are adding both Hakone and Hiroshima.

In terms of a rail pass, the best match would be a 14-day Japan Rail Pass in terms of timing.

When it comes to savings, it will depend on how much local travel you will do with it as well. For example, in Hiroshima you can use both the JR Ferry to Miyajima and local tourist bus in Hiroshima. As well as the local JR Network in cities like Tokyo and Osaka. The best date for activation would be on the 25th, so you can use the Shinkansen to Hakone and Monorail back to Haneda Airport.
