Hi,

I am preparing a trip in japan (single), and on various websites I see different prices for separate tickets.

arriving Tokyo Sep 15
Tokyo to Niigata Sep 17
daytrip to Yahiko (so return ticket) Sep 18
daytrip to Murakami (return ticket) Sep 19
Niigata to Tsuruoka Sep 20
daytrip to Sakata (return ticket) Sep 21
Tsuruoka to Akita Sep 22
daytrip to Kakunodate (return ticket) Sep 23
daytrip to Tazawa Lake (return ticket) Sep 24
daytrip to Oga (return ticket) Sep 25
Akita to Aomori Sep 26
daytrip to Hirosaki (return ticket) Sep 27
daytrip to Hachinohe (return ticket) Sep 28
daytrip to Takayama shrine (Goshogawara station return ticket) Sep 29
Aomori to Morioka Sep 30
daytrip to Hiraizumi (return ticket) Oct 1
Morioka to Yonezawa Oct 2
Yonezawa to Tokyo Oct 3
daytrip to Kawaguchi
daytrip to Kawagoe & Gyoda
daytrip to Mito & Ajigaura
and then what's better: going to Hakone & continue to Shizuoka for a 2-day trip or making 2 separate daytrips to both places?

So, for this plan, would you recommend 21-day JR Pass or maybe 2 ensuing JR East passes or still another combination?

Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

It would be convenient to use the 21-day Nationwide JR Pass. However, given your specific itinerary, the best strategy is to combine individual tickets for your shorter, local trips and activate the 10-Day JR EAST PASS for your long-distance travel from 22 September to 1 October.

This approach covers all your high-cost Shinkansen and regional express lines through Akita, Aomori, and Morioka.

Safe journey!

Kind Regards,

Mariko
