Hello Daniel,

I read your blog about traveling to the Mt. Fuji area from Tokyo and have a few questions regarding the new limited express train that can take us to the Mt. Fuji area from Shinjuku.

  1. If traveling on the Limited Express Fuji Excursion.from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko Station, is it fully covered by our JR Pass?
  2. Is the ride directly to Kawaguchiko Station or do we need to transfer?
  3. Once at Kawaguchiko Station is the walk or local bus far from Lake Kawaguchiko?
  4. Is there a specific area at Lake Kawaguchiko that gets us the best views of Mt. Fuji?
  5. Would you happen to know if we can purchase tickets to canoe on Lake Kawaguchiko on the same day or do we need to book through an agency?

Thank you for your advice!

Sincerely,

Mary

Hi Mary,

1.) The train will travel on the Fujikyu tracks between Kawaguchiko and Otsuki station. For this part, a separate fare is required. This is about 1240yen/per person/one way.

2.) Yes.

3.) You can walk, though local buses are available too. Its not that far.

4.) The lake has many good view spots, especially from the North side.

5.) I think you just buy them once you get there. An other nice activity to do is to rent a bicycle and ride around the lake. You'll get many panoramic views like this.

Kind regards,
Daniel
