Hello, i’ll be travelling to Japan from 12/22 to 12/31 with this itirenary :

12/22 - by noon arrived Osaka (KIX), Osaka city sightseeing
12/23 - Osaka Universal Studio
12/24 - Osaka to Kyoto, Kyoto city sightseeing
12/25 - Kyoto to Shirakawa-go (Kanazawa), continue to Nagano
12/26 - Nagano
12/27 - Nagano to Tokyo
12/28 - Tokyo city sightseeing
12/29 - Tokyo city sightseeing
12/30 - Tokyo city sightseeing
12/31 - Tokyo to Narita (Using Narita Express) by noon

Can suggest when should be the activation day for 7days JR Pass?
Ordinary JR Pass can be used for the above itirenaries with reservation for each longer train trip?

Hi there,

1.) Your first big trip is to Kanazawa, I would start using the JR Pass on this day or the day before when you go to Kyoto.

2.) Yes, all train travel between these locations is covered. Just keep in mind that the bus between Kanazawa - Shirakawa-go is not covered.

Another question, is there any Osaka - Kyoto train pass that we can use if we’re about to activate the JR Pass on the day when we go to Kanazawa?
Also, ordinary pass is good enough already? We just need to reserve the seat for each trip?
What’s the advantage of Green JR Pass then?
(Ps : we’re travelling with one kid age 7)
