We are flying into Haneda at 10pm, so wouldn't be able to activate the JR Pass in time and will have to get into Tokyo another way, right? Do you know how?
We're spending a few days in Tokyo and traveling to Kyoto then Osaka and finally flying out of KAI. I think I can get individual rail tickets for less but friends have told me the JR Pass very convenient to have while we're in Tokyo to use on the JR Yamamote line? We're staying in either Shinagawa or Harajuku.
Hi there,
The Haneda pass exchange office, will indeed be closed by 10 p.m. There are several other exchange points in Tokyo including Tokyo station and Shinagawa.
To make your way to Tokyo I would recommend taking the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho and transferring there to the Yamanote line, as it will both be stopping at Shinagawa and Harajuku.
Is the pass worth it?
Generally it becomes a great option if you make at least a return between Kyoto and Tokyo. Since you only go one way I think it would be more economic if you buy tickets on the go.
Tokyo --> Kyoto ¥ 13,220
Kyoto --> Kansai Airport approx. ¥ 3,300
For a total of ¥ 16,520, the 7-day JR-Pass is 28,300 so you would not cover the price even with the extra travel in Tokyo on the Yamanote line.
