Is it worth getting the JR Pass with this itine...

Hi,

I'm planning for our 2 weeks travel in December... and initially planned our itinerary based on Chubu JR connections. But as I'm comparing prices, I'm getting confused as to whether it's worth it? Kindly look thru n help?

Thank you in advance!

Day 1: Chubu Centrair Airport ==> Kyoto - 3 nights in Kyoto

Day 4: Kyoto ==> Takayama
- 4 nights in Takayama as base to explore surrounding area (Shirakawago, Shin Hotaka Ropeway, n maybe Gujo/Gero or others)

Day 8: Takayama ==> Nagano
- 3 nights Nagano as base to explore nearby places (Yamanouchi, Togura Kamiyamada or Karuizawa)

Day 11: Nagano ==> Nagoya (we may stop by Matsumoto, n put our luggages in station lockers if any?)
- 4 nights in Nagoya as base to explore nearby places (Kiso valley, Arimatsu town, local shopping etc)

Day 14 checkout ==> Chubu Airport

Hi there,

I checked the price of tickets for this route and compared it against the cost of a JR Pass and it will depend a bit on what trains you will take and what day trips you will do (e.g. Matsumoto). I think you'll be a bit of above the break-even point. Keep in mind that the JR Pass does allow you to make any day trip without having to think about the costs, just hop and the train and that's that, no matter if the fare is 100yen or 10.000yen.

You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

Thank you for your help Daniel-san, I'll look thru n compare again.

Considering shorter area pass too if it'll be more economical. If it's not much of a diff, we may do without a JR Pass, and just flow where the wind leads :P
