We are planning on 7 days in Japan this December. Our itinerary involves:
Fly in to Tokyo
Days 1-3 - Tokyo
Days 3-5 - Kyoto (with a day trip to Nara and a day trip to Hiroshima)
Days 5-7 - Hakone
Fly out from Tokyo
Could you let me know whether a seven day JR pass would allow us to travel to all these destinations including the day trips? Also what would the savings be?

Hi Rich,
The JR Pass can be used for travel between all these places and also includes the day trips you plan to make. You will make fantastic savings compared to buying normal tickets.
Do keep in mind that the JR Pass is not valid for travel within the Hakone Region, here you could look at a Hakone Free Pass.
It terms of savings, have a look at this list:
Tokyo - Kyoto ¥ 13,600
Kyoto - Nara (return) ¥ 1,420
Kyoto - Hiroshima ¥ 11,090
Hiroshima - Kyoto ¥ 11,090
Kyoto - Odawara (for Hakone). ¥ 12,080
Odawara - Tokyo ¥ 3,740
For a total of ¥ 53,020 or ¥ 23,910 in savings as the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 29,110
