Good to know, I looked at different passes but have to say it is hard to find one that matches your plans, and would help you make savings. I think the only option that comes close would be a 7-day JR Pass if you could use it to Kyoto, Osaka, and back to Tokyo but even then, there would not be a real difference over normal ticket prices. So, you could do either way.

Thank you for your help with this. Even if we decide to not do a JR pass, are we able to book train tickets in advance and reserve our seats?
