I've come to get the pass today to realise the price has had a huge spike, what other transportation is there?
I based my month long trip in Japan around using the rail pass to get between locations and hotels, but with the price increase that I didn't know about it's kind of sent my pans in a tumble. Ill be taking my luggage on the transport when going in between hotels, can you recommend another transport that allows this and is better financially?

Hi there,
Japan offers many types of transportation and possible discount tickets. However, the best match depends a lot on your route and timing. A good starting point is to read up on Japan Guide and get familiar with the different options.
There is however no option similar to the JR Pass, where you have one ticket for all of Japan and get unlimited travel.
