Day pass?

There's a 7,14 and 21 day JR Pass. You can however buy local day tickets for travel within the bigger cities, such as Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

It depends on what you want to ride. There are many subway day passes or regional passes you can take advantage of. Almost all can be bought in Japan after arriving, and in fact many have to be. Just find what you want, and ask at the station, or find a local tourist info office.
