Yes that's all possible with the JR Pass and you would be making good savings too! The trip to Hiroshima is also covered and I'd certainly recommend making it if you can.

Note that a small part (the last) to ShuzenJi is traveled on a private railway and needs a 500yen separate fare. Here is the route in Hyperdia.

I have 3 more questions.

1. On JR webside there is a ticket fare and a seat fee. Do we have to pay the seat fee if we have a JR Rail Pass. or is it included

2. How can we get the seat reservation? Can we order it on the web side here from home or can we first bye them in Japan. We already know were we want to go and when.

3. Can we take Shinkansen Nozomi with JP Pass? We have changed you plan so we don't go to Shuzen-ji, but directly from Tokyo to Takayama via Nagoya, and later from Kyoto to Hiroshima and back. And after the plan is it Shinkansen Nozomi that drive those 2 lines.

Hi Hans,

1.) All tickets fees are included! So you'll never have to pay extra when traveling on the JR with the JR Pass.

2.) You can make the seat reservations once you are in Japan and have exchanged your JR Pass. Trains rarely sell out so it's not something to worry about though. Also see our blog post on how to go about it.

3.) The Nozomi train is not included but you can take the Hikari Super express instead - this is the same train and also travels the same route as the Nozomi - but makes a couple more stops on the way. The result in travel time is minimum for instance Tokyo - Kyoto takes about 20min more.
