Is the JR pass the right option for this trip?

Hello. I arrive in Tokyo Narita at the beginning of April. I am in Japan for 8 days. I am looking at travelling into Tokyo- Hakone-Kyoto, then doing trips to Nara and possibly Hiroshima from Kyoto, before returning back to Tokyo to fly out. I know this isn't covering vast geographical regions and so was wondering whether JR Pass was the most cost effective? I do want the experience is travelling by bullet train of course. I would be most grateful for any advice. Thank you.

To understand if a 7 day JR Pass is cost effective we need to compare it's price (¥28,300) with the real ticket costs of the travel you intend to do. Lets take a look at your costs:

Tokyo > Odawara: ¥3640, (35mins, 83km)
Odawara > Kyoto: ¥11750, (160mins, 429km)
Kyoto > Nara: ¥690, (44mins, 41km)
Nara > Kyoto: ¥690, (48mins, 41km)
Kyoto > Hiroshima: ¥10790, (112mins, 380km)
Hiroshima > Kyoto: ¥10790, (126mins, 380km)
Kyoto > Tokyo: ¥13220, (161mins, 513km)
Tokyo > Narita airport terminal 1: ¥2940, (58mins, 79km)

TOTAL: ¥54510 for 8 legs

As you can see, with a 7 day Japan Rail Pass you'll make savings of ¥26,210 over individual tickets. You'll also be able to use the bullet train for much of this travel.
