We are 3 travelers. This is the itinerary of our trip to Japan. Do we need JR passes?? What kind of trains would you recommend?

Days 1-5, 21-25 April, stay in Tokyo;
On 25 April (or any other day within that time) make a daytrip to lake Kawaguchi/Fuji
Day 6, 26 April, from Tokyo to Takayama
Day 7, 27 April, from Takayama to Shirakawa-go (travel by bus)
Day 8, 28 April, stay in Kanazawa
Days 9-13, 29 April – 3 May, from Kanazawa to Kyoto (5:15h) and stay in Kyoto
On days 12 and 13: day trips to Osaka and Nara from Kyoto
Day 14, 4 May, from Kyoto to Koyasan.
Day 15, 5 May, from Koyasan to Naoshima (via Himeji Castle)
Day 16, 6 May, stay in Naoshima
Day 17, 7 May, from Naoshima to Hiroshima,
Day 18, 8 May, from Hiroshima to Tokyo
Day 19, 9 May, Tokyo, departure from Haneda

With this itinerary it's definitely worth purchasing a 14-day JR Pass, if you are able to fit in all of your major train journeys into those 14 days. You can refer to our JR Fare Calculator if you have any more queries about whether a JR Pass is suitable for you.

Thanks, could you please help me fine-tune my travel expenses and find out if it's worth buying a 15-day pass as long as we we're travelling by train not all the time but on certain days dispersed throughout the trip:
- Day 6, 26 April, from Tokyo to Takayama - Day 9, from from Kanazawa to Kyoto - Days 12 and 13, 2 and 3 May: day trips to Osaka and Nara from Kyoto - Day 14, 4 May, from Kyoto to Koyasan. - Day 15, 5 May, from Koyasan to Naoshima (via Himeji Castle) - Day 17, 7 May, from Naoshima to Hiroshima, - Day 18, 8 May, from Hiroshima to Tokyo

Is the pass used for fixed dates, e.g. from 1 to 7 May, or it's valid for a month and can be used for 7 days within than time.
