Osaka to Hiroshima (Return Journey)

Hi everybody,

I'm slightly confused and was hoping for some advice on my journey

Wednesday 26 June 2013 - Osaka to Hiroshima
Sunday 01st July 2013 - Hiroshima to Osaka

I've had a quick look at the Shinkansen timetables already but I'm not sure how flexible the travel pass is....

My flight arrives into Osaka Kansai on Wednesday 26th June at 08:20AM. I will need to take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima.
Whats the easiest way to Shin-Osaka? Are there regular buses at the terminal?

Do I need to book a specific train at a certain time or is the pass flexible? For example when I arrive at Shin-Osaka, can I take the next train or do I need to wait for a specific one?

I really appreciate any help. I was thinking that maybe somebody else has made this journey as well.

Hi there!

At first, travel in Japan can be a little astounding. Not to worry though, the route from Kansai Airport - Hiroshima is relatively simply and only involves one transfer at Shin-Osaka. The easiest way to get here, is to take the Haruka Express directly from Kansai Airport.

About making reservations with your JRPass, you can take any train you wish during the time that you use your JR-Pass, so you don't have to book any specific train. Trains from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima leave at least every 30 minutes. The best thing to do is: simply show your pass to the JR Staff and they will find the best route and print the tickets for you.

Will I be able to validate my pass at the airport so I can use it for the Haruka Express?

Yes you can activate your JR Pass at Kansai Airport and take the Haruka express from there without have to pay anything extra!

KIX (Kansai International Airport) is very small so you can't miss the train station, just follow the signs with trains and walk into the JR Office to activate your JRPass and get your tickets to Hiroshima!
