We will be travelling to:
6 days in Tokyo - day trips in the city, Mt Fuji, Nikko-Kinugawa
4 days in Kyoto - day trips to Nara, travel within the city, Osaka day trip travel within Osaka
2 days in Hiroshima - travel within Hiroshima and Miyajima
1 day Narita - travel around Narita and travel to airport from the hotel

While we have 14 day JR Travel passes to go inter region (from city to city) . We can also see that JR passes will work for Nikko and maybe Mt Fuji

  1. Do you think it is worth getting the Suica IC travelcard for travel within the cities we are visiting?
  2. Where is the best place to buy the Suica card - Narita airport/Shinjuku Station?
  3. Will Suica travel card be valid outside Tokyo in Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Narita?

I understand that the deposit on Suica will be refunded along with any unspent monies left on the card at the end of our stay. Can we get our refund anywhere or only where we purchase the Suica?

Hello Yash,

1.) An idea card (such as Suica) is always a good idea. While they do not provide any discount, they make travel a lot more convenient.

2.) Currently, Suica cards are not being sold, but you can download one in your Apple Wallet, or Google Pay. There are visitor Suica cards available at the airport, but these expire after 30 days.

3.) Yes, anywhere, IC cards are accepted.

Suica cards can only be refunded at JR East offices, the "welcome Suica card" can't be refunded.

I have downloaded a card to Apple Wallet. the 3 adults can do this easily.

What should we do for our 13 year old. He does not have a phone. Can I have 2 Suica cards in my wallet?

Just a concern as you say, Suica cards are not currently being sold
