Is it difficult to find something to sleep spontaneous? Do you mean like a hotel? This is generally very easy in Japan. What I used to do was take a train to any city, then walk in to the tourist information and ask for help. They would phone hotels for me, to ask if there was space and what the cost is. The only danger with this, is that you can arrive in a city where they have a big festival or event and everything is sold out. It is rare but can happen.

Would you recommend to buy the Japan Rail Pass for that special trip? Definitely, you can make amazing savings here using a JR Pass. You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary.

What are the 5 most important things to see in that area of Japan? This is a difficult one to answer and I think would be different for every person. For a first time to Japan, I would at least include Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. From there, the sky is the limit.
