Hi there - we plan to visit Japan between the 14th and 29th of November. Here is our planned itinerary -
14 Nov Haneda Airport → Tokyo
17 Nov Tokyo → Takayama
20 Nov Takayama -Kyoto
22 Nov Kyoto - Nara (return)
23 Nov Kyoto - Osaka (return)
24 Nov Kyoto - Kobe (return)
26 Nov Kyoto - Nagasaki
29 Nagasaki -Fukuoka Airport
Can you advise if we are better buying a rail pass or individual train tickets.

For your itinerary it is likely that your most cost-effective option would be to purchase your tickets individually, so if you want to save as much as possible I’d suggest not purchasing a JR Pass.

One more query for you - if we buy one of the regional passes (Eg to cover our travel around the Kyoto area) do we need to order this in advance before we arrive in Japan?
