I will be doing a round trip from Tokyo to Osaka and back from Dec 3 - 9.
I intend to activate the JR Pass on Dec 3 and taking a return trip from Osaka to Narita on Dec 8, please can i confirm that a 7 day pass would be sufficient?

Yes a JR Pass would more more than sufficient for this, you can make nice savings compared to purchasing normal train tickets too!
The Shinkansen will take you from Tokyo station to Shin-Osaka, from there local transport can be used to explore the city.
