Rail pass or buy as we go?

Hello

Should we buy a 14 Day Rail pass or not for the following 15 day itinerary:

• Mon 19 - Tue 20 May --- Flying into Osaka, staying for 1 night
• Wed 21 - Sat 24 May -- Kyoto, 4 nights
• Sun 25 - Mon 26 May -- Takayama, 2 nights (we might do a tour which includes transportation from Kyoto to Takayama, estimated cost 7 000 yen)
• Tue 27 Apr - Sun 2 Jun -- Tokyo, 6 nights
• Mon 3 Jun - flying home out of Narita

We appreciate any advice you can offer to make the most of this expense.
