Hi My family and I will be arriving in Tokyo from South Africa at the end of June . After a week in Tokyo we'll take the bullet train to Kyoto for 5 days then return to Tokyo before flying home. There are 5 adults and 2 children. We'll have 7 large suitcases. I used the fare calculator and saw the saving for the return trip. Is the 7 day pass recommended as we'll only take small train trips or busses between wards on Tokyo so the 14 day pass not needed? How do we book for luggage when we book the JR pass? If I book this week will it arrive in South Africa soon ? Thank you. Refqah

Hi there,
1.) For luggage rules please see: https://www.jrpass.com/blog/how-much-luggage-can-i-bring-on-the-shinkansen-and-japanese-trains
2.) I do indeed think that a 7-day JR Pass is the best option if you make a return Tokyo - Osaka/Kyoto within this time period.
3.) For delivery see: https://www.jrpass.com/buy-the-japan-rail-pass-online ZA takes about 3 business days.
Kind regards,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel.
Once I purchase the JR Pass online and receive delivery, can I reserve our bullet train seats online before we arrive on Japan? Thanks. Refqah

Hi Refqah,
Seats can be reserved once you have activated your pass in Japan, at any JR ticket window.
